The Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted the International Scientific and Methodological Conference “Inclusive Education in Higher Education institutions: Strategies, Practices, Resources”. The event was attended by experts from Belarus, Uzbekistan, Armenia and Kazakhstan, students with special educational needs, scientists and academic staff.

The conference was aimed to identify the real problems faced by students with special educational needs on a daily basis, as well as to unite efforts of the professional community to form an inclusive environment in higher educational institutions of Kazakhstan.

The following issues were discussed: the organization of inclusive education in universities, career guidance and employment of university graduates with special educational needs, the organization of psychological and pedagogical support for inclusive education at all levels of education at the university, professional training of teachers and specialists to work in inclusive education, etc.

“According to the state program for the development of education and science of the Republic of Kazakhstan by 2025, 70% of the country's universities should create conditions for inclusive education, within 2 years we need to create an inclusive, barrier-free environment for students with special educational needs. Universities should create conditions for all students to study without difficulties, receive diplomas and successfully get a job,” Vice-Rector for Social Development of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Nurzhan Aidosov stressed. He also noted that the Scientific and Practical Center “Inclusive Environment” operates at the Kazakh National University. A Coordinating Council for Inclusive Education has been established, which includes leading experts on inclusion from different universities of the republic.

As a result of the conference, specific recommendations will be developed on the formation of an inclusive environment in the country's universities.
