Branch history

On January 11, 2022, for the first time, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, announced in his message about the opening of branches of foreign universities.

On February 10, 2022, at the meeting of Presidents V. Putin and K.-J. Tokayev, it was decided to open branches of the leading technical universities of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Kazakhstan, after which an appropriate intergovernmental agreement was concluded.

On June 1, 2022, the rector of Al-Farabi KazNU Zh. Tuymebaev and Rector of NRNU MEPhI V. Shevchenko signed an agreement on opening the branch.

On September 12, 2022, the grand opening of the first academic year took place in Almaty at the Almaty branch of NRNU MEPhI on the basis of Al-Farabi KazNU.

 

Areas of training

In accordance with license No. L035-00115-77 / 00096948 dated May 24, 2016, the branch has the following areas of training:

14.03.02 "Nuclear physics and technologies", educational program "Elementary particle physics and cosmology" - bachelor's degree;

09.03.01 "Informatics and Computer Engineering", educational program "Protected High-Performance Computing Systems" - bachelor's degree;

09.04.01 "Informatics and Computer Engineering", educational program "Protected High-Performance Computing Systems and Technologies" - master's degree.

Admission rules to the branch

Admission to the 1st year of the Branch for undergraduate programs is carried out on a competitive basis according to the results of entrance examinations conducted by the main site of NRNU MEPhI, passing the UNT is not enough.

Admission to the 1st year of the Branch for master's programs is regulated by the rules for admission to NRNU MEPhI.

When applying for admission to study, the applicant submits:

a) an identity document, citizenship;

b) a document of the established form confirming the level of education;

c) 2 photographs of 3x4 format.

Original documents in a foreign language must have a notarized translation into Russian.

 

Educational process

Education under the undergraduate programs lasts 4 years, of which 3 years - in Almaty and 1 year - in Moscow. Master's programs last 2 years with an opportunity to have a practice in Moscow.

According to the current license, at least 50% of the disciplines are taught by the teaching staff of the main site and its branches in the Russian Federation. The language of instruction is Russian.

Training is carried out both on grants of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and on a paid basis. After successful completion of training, diplomas of the sample of the Russian Federation are issued.
