The museum - is a visiting card of an university, real embodiment of its image, key element of corporate culture. The main functions of a museum: image biulding, educational, scientific and innovational, pedagogical.
KazNU named after al-Farabi Museum
KazNU named after al-Farabi Museum – is a scientific and informational subdivision of an university, which is designed for preserving, making an augmentation and propagandizing the cultural treasure of an university for providing the effective education and research preparation, moral and patriotic personal development of graduated specialists, who are able to meet competition in Kazakhstan and on a world-wide basis.
The museum exists in university since 1989, 20 years after the scale reconstruction was made. The opening of a new museum was held on October 13, 2009 within a day when President of RoK N.A. Nazarbayev has visited KazNU named after al-Farabi.
By the task of N.A.Nazarbayev, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and in accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Kazakhstan № 629, dated 23 October 1991, Kazakh National University was given a name of a great thinker of the East, the son of Kazakh steppe – Abu Nasr al-Farabi (870-950).
Biological museum was found in 1936, at the beginning as museum of zoology under the zoology department of the faculty of biology, then in 1949 it was reorganized into biological museum of a faculty.
Museum of Paleolithic age of Kazkahstan
The museum of Paleolithic age – was opened in2000. Collection museum science foundation consists of collection of stone artifacts of Paleolithic and Neolithic ages, more than 600 thousand artifacts.
Museum of ancient and middle-age archeology of Kazakhstan
The museum of ancient and middle-age archeology of Kazakhstan was found in 1983. The permanent exhibition of a museum consists of three sections, where archaeological materials of the Bronze Era were put, early Iron Age and Middle Ages, which were discovered during the scientific research of faculty members.
On May 16, 2014 at the faculty of oriental studies of KazNU named after al-Farabi within the framework of the implementation of breakthrough projects of the University official opening ceremony of Museum of the East was held.
